Pull the trigger or be patient?
After test driving the S5 i cant stop thinking about it, unfortunately the dealers arent working much on pricing because of such limited inventory, and no shipments until September.
My question is, the S4 has been out for a couple months longer than the S5 coupe/sportback, but they seemed to have already started to offer the black optics package. Does anyone know if this means the S5 will soon offer the same or is it going to be a 2019 addition?

ha- I am in the same boat. I am currently trying to remain patient but it is difficult ...I really want the BO package but it is really anybody's guess if and when it is going to be offered. For what worth (and I know it is now worth much) the A4 seems to have added BO a few months after S4 - S4 BO on build page but A4 info still just in order guide:

In talking to my local dealer, I think it'll be soon...like within the next 60 days.
If I were going with one of the two whites, the BO package would be important but as I'm leaning more towards Navarra Blue, I'm thinking the shiny trim and grille would look best.

That would be great - this thread is what sold me - the manhattan grey + BO looks super sharp IMO:

The BO was also very important to me but similar to the OP, once I test drove the S5 and checked out the tech, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Ended up pulling the trigger once I saw a fully loaded prestige at my dealer that was available. Otherwise, I would have to wait 4 to 5 months for a custom order with exclusive paint but without any indication for BO. The BO wasn't a deal breaker for me so it was okay for me.
I'm contemplating after market BO but the chrome is actually starting to grow on me. Doesn't bother me and sometimes I think it's actually a nice accent to the car

i was in the same boat for a few months - after looking at countless youtube videos i've decide that chrome trim actually looks better on brilliant/mythos black and navarra blue. given those are the two colors i was interested in, i didnt want to wait the extra year.
if you're looking at grey, white or red, black optics definitely the way to go and its a much tougher debate.
first post after 4 years of lurking! some kind of record?

I'm just going to counter because I love Black Optics but pulled the trigger...
Yes BO was added to the order guide shortly after the S4 was released but keep in mind the A4 had been out a full year. I think the timing was the same on the Q7 as well.
The 2018 A5 and S5 SB came out within weeks of each other and it has only been about a month. I think you're looking at another 6-7 months before it's on an order guide and then another 3-4 month for build and delivery.

curious if anyone has an idea on how much it would cost to wrap the chrome trim on a S5 cab?
basically the rocker panel, trim under the cab top, mirror caps, windscreen wraparound.. chrome at bottom of rear bumper
