I downloaded the manuals from erWin today..
3.0L engine: 7.7 Qt with filter change. VW 508 00 or 509 00
2.0L engine: 5.4 Qt with filter, VW 502 00

Another document on available oils shows only one source for the 508/509 standards: Castrol Edge Long Life IV, 0W-20. I've read that the dealers sell this at a reasonable price. I'd buy from there the first time at least to confirm the specs.

It's weird that Audi's own 2018 Scheduled Maintenance booklet only lists 508.00/509.00 oil for some of the 2.0 turbo engines, but not for the 3.0T...

Nevermind... it looks like they've updated it later:

I just did my first drain and fill oil change. I took my time as I was getting familiar with the car, but it wasn't overly complicated. You'll have to remove the panel under the car to access the oil pan. It is the section in front of the axle. There are about 10 or so torx screws and two 13mm bolts that attach the panel to the car. I recommend safety glasses as dirt and other debris will fall as you loosen the panel. Keep track of the location of each screw as they differ in size slightly.
Materials:
  • Oil: Motul Specific VW 708.00 709.00 (7.7 quarts / 7.3 liters). Any 708/709 oil will work, but my tuner recommended Motul.
  • Filter: VW OEM (#06M198405F)
  • Magnetic oil drain plug and seals
Tools:
  • Filter Wrench: 32mm socket
  • 13mm Socket: To remove two bolts that help secure the panel to the bottom of the car
  • 19mm Socket (if you replace the oil drain plug)
  • Torx:
    • T-25, T-30: To remove about a dozen screws that secure the panel to the car
    • T-45: Oil Drain Plug

That's the first time I've seen this brand of Audi approved oil.

It was very difficult to find. I looked for anything with the 708/709 rating...Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil1, etc. with no luck. I imagine that oil for this car will get easier to source as time passes and manufacturers catch up to the market. I did see that Mobil1 has a variant, but it is only available in Europe at the moment.

This is my first Audi, and I was surprised to see how far forward the oil pan is located. I didn't expect it to be in front of the front wheels, but it made sense once I saw the proximity of the transmission (I was impressed with the amount of cooling fins on the bottom of the transmission BTW). One gripe I have is that you can't get an oil level reading without letting the car warm up and sit for 2 minutes. On another note, I don't recommend anyone wait until 10k miles to change their oil for the first time. I did mine at 1k and saw a metal shaving in the oil filter housing (which is good that it caught it). I would have done it at 500 miles, but I had to wait for the materials to be delivered. For what it's worth, my tuner (who's a family friend that specializes in German cars) advised an oil change at 500 miles and every 5k miles after. The 10k mile recommendation is likely an environmental measure, but this is a performance vehicle that should be treated as such IMO. I have a C7 Corvette Z51, and would never wait 10k miles to change my oil. Unless you're leasing the car then by all means do the minimum required maintenance!

I assume you meant 508/509? I performed my oil change with an extractor a while back and documented it. I never knew you could change it from the bottom. It's nice to know an alternative.

Yes! Thank you for the correction, 508/509. I actually watched your video before I did my oil change. Haha! Thanks for making it. The extractor is definitely faster than draining the oil. I could see the benefit of that method if you're short on time, or even alternating drain/extract oil changes. The nice thing is that the S5 is tall enough that it works with the set of standard ramps I have. One thing that would have made it easier and faster is a right-angle power drill or just a more compact electric drill to remove the 12-15 screws/bolts. As you move rearward, there isn't much room for a full-size drill. I would add one caution/comment to draining the oil, and that would be around replacing the drain plug (with a new seal/gasket of course). It took me a few attempts to get the threads to align properly. It felt like it would cross-thread easily if I was impatient. Torque to 22 ftlbs, FYI.

seems like all you need for the oil change is this + the extractor, and a 32MM socket?

Yup, oil and a filter will do it! You'll just have a spare washer and drain plug leftover since you're using an extractor.

Two more highly rated VW 508-509 oils, the Mobil 1 ESP is new and hard to find, but out there.
