S5 SB - 2,200 miles - Now with Check Engine Light
Just got the yellow check engine light on my new 2018 S5 SB. No obvious issues - anyone have any idea, or is this a known issue.
Nearest dealer is 60 miles away. Grrrrrr.

I re-tightened the gas cap and see if it goes off in a couple of days.
Thanks.

With a check engine light you really need to know what error codes are in the system to determine what kind of problem you have. The fact that it did not go into limp mode and that the car otherwise seems to be running ok tells me it is probably not something major. If it is an evap code due to a loose gas cap it might take several days for the car to go through the required drive cycles to reset the light. When you checked the gas cap, did it seem to be tight already? If so, you will probably find that the gas cap was not the problem, but again, the error codes will tell you a lot more.

Wife's 2017 Q7 CEL (in fact, the whole dash basically lit up like a christmas tree) came on at about 4,000 miles. Took it in, they applied a software update and it was fixed. Dealership told me that I was a few updates behind. Sooooooo..... 8 different warnings are going to pop up on my dash even though nothing is technically wrong... and possibly because I'm a "few" software updates behind? Wow..
I've heard of these issues with several newer model cars of different brands. All of this technological dependence in new cars is a bit scary to be honest, especially when you consider that auto manufacturers are NOT software companies!

Good news. Tightened the gas cap last night and the CEL was off this morning. Obviously, will keep an eye on it.
Thanks everyone for the help.

It's a good idea to get something like Carista or OBD11 so you can read the codes if you get a CEL. The CEL can come on for things as simple as bad fuel causing misfires. Often these things clear on their own and the CEL goes out a few days later or even sooner like in your case. It does sound like it was the gas cap in your case. Also, in general a solid CEL is not a major issue, however if it's flashing than you need to have it checked out ASAP.
