One big issue with any turbo is that when it's in boost, the MPG plummets.

Got about 24 mpg on a 84 mile trip. 60 of them was highway and the remainder was a combination of 2-lane routes and some local streets. Drove on Comfort and D modes all the way and was cruising at around 85 to 90 on the highway.

Not bad I guess?

I know this is an old thread but thought might help others out. Just bought my S5 sport back and it’s a very thirsty lady! Had the car for a couple of weeks now and mostly drive in dynamic sport, must say coming from a 535 series the car is much quicker and sportier drive, love it so far! I drive mostly highway with some city, avg about 15 mpg. I plan on going to a more normal commute soon, comfort mode. I ll post if anyone else is interested in seeing results.

To me gas mileage star to improve after the 1st 1000 miles, then continue to improve till after 3K. In the beginning, even in comfort with a light foot, it struggle to break 20mpg in mix city/highway. after 1K, I was beginning to see 21-22mpg then after 3K I'm now seeing 24-26. This is from the short trip computer for my daily commute of 8-9 miles each way. It average between 28-35mph. I'll see around 24mpg on a 28 average and 25-26mpg on a 33 average. My longest trip is probably 50 miles so far and I get about 26.5 using cruise set at 75.

Check this out: 35.2 mpg! (2018 S5 Sportback) Ok, these results are not typical. Here's why it's so high: I was down to 50 miles of range (what can I say, I'm a re-fuel procrastinator) and I needed to do ~20 mile drive on the 405 freeway (in L.A.) mid-day, so I thought "if I take it real easy, I can easily make it to my destination before refueling. So these results are me just setting things to Comfort, me driving normally onto the freeway, setting the DAP cruise control to 80 mph (it never got that fast, the flow of traffic was ~65 mph) with DAP cruise control doing all the breaking & accelerating, and then me driving manually off of the freeway to my destination. Not bad for a short little 25 minute experiment!
:
35 mpg

Default B9 Coupe mileage

My S5 coupe long term readout is currently 23 mpg with 7380 miles. I seee about 27 at 75 to 80 on the highway. Given the performance I am happy. Do wish they could find room for a larger tank. A5 would be better.

This is slightly disappointing as I was getting 23 mpg with my 2014 435i xDrive 8AT with similar straight-line performance and a slightly larger tank. This may improve as I'm just over 3000 km and the heavy winter weather here may have negatively impacted mileage.

It's crazy how varied the MPG is on here. I'm in NH where we run a winter blend fuel that gets less MPG along with studded snow tires and cold weather and I'm getting 24.9 for the last 2200 ish miles.

On a typical day when my wife has no appointments I pick up groceries and some lunch for her, maybe a half hour drive with two stops. This wreaks havoc with mileage, even in a small town/exurban environment like Niagara. Just extending that trip by 10 or 15 minutes will often improve the mileage by up to 5 mpg.
