I find it hard to believe that the A5 is clocking at 5 seconds with 273 lb-ft torque. If that indeed is true, S5 is just not worth it considering the price difference.
My bad. Yeah, that is for the coupe. I am looking at coupes.

I am aware Audi underrates their 0-60 figures, but official number for A5 is 5.7 seconds, and for the S5 is 4.5 seconds. I find it hard to believe that the A5 is clocking at 5 seconds with 273 lb-ft torque. If that indeed is true, S5 is just not worth it considering the price difference.
S5 vs A5 is more than just the engine btw...

Thanks for posting this. I've been tossing this around for a bit recently, as I'm considering making a move from my B8.5 S4. The S5 SB is just a bit more than I want to pay (about $64k optioned the way I want it), and a similarly equipped A5 SB is about $54k. Ordinarily I don't even bother looking at the "non-S" version, but after seeing another youtube video created by a German with a side by side comparison of the base A5, the S-line A5, and the S5, I was really surprised at the minimal differences (even aesthetic ones!) between the set.

Another big factor for me is also resale. I feel it's easier to sell enthusiast cars, since they're not as common and have a targeted buyer's market.

I'll say this: if I could get the S5 with the 19" double spoke (5 "spoke" design) wheels, I don't think it'd be much of a competition! The S5 wheels are pretty weak compared to those, IMO.

Edit: for reference, here was the video I was talking about:
At over 50 minutes long, it's very thorough, though there are likely differences between trim availability on the A5 line between Euro and NA models.

The engine sound alone was worth it to me.

According to Audi's web site, there is almost 300 pounds difference in curb weight between the two. Can't be only engine's weight difference, isnt it?

Well I couldn’t resist and so I have to share this. This is comparison of the acceleration number from car and driver between S5 and A5 . I’m an S5 owner and I agree that the lethargic behaviour is a disappointment, and this comparison speaks to it. In day to day driving you aren’t going to be using the launch control and so if you look at the competitors . The S5 has the worst rolling start numbers and that too my a lot. The bmw 440 does 5-60 in 5.1 sec and the c43 in 5.2 I believe. The A5 in 5.9 and the S5 in 5.8!! So if you find yourself at a res light with any of these cars , you know what to do!
And yes I was doing this before I go to sleep

The A5 is a 2-door while the S5 is a Sportback, so the comparison isn't exactly ideal. That being said, it is surprising that the A5 with its "puny" 4 cylinder is way faster in the 30-50 run. The A5's dual-clutch transmission may have a lot to do with its quicker acceleration compared to the S5's 8-speed torque converter Tiptronic transmission. My guess is they went with the Tiptronic because the dual-clutch was having reliability issues when mated to a stronger engine.

Sorry but if they could only get 5.8 with a S5 they need to find a new driver. Most of the reports are saying the claimed 4.5 is under rated.
