Default &^%$#)* Plastic Wheel Guide Stud!!!

It's time to put the snow tires on so for the first time I used that plastic wheel guide stud that comes in the tool kit. For the past several years I've been fine with being able to visually line up the holes - takes a little fiddling but it works. This time I thought I'd make things easy on myself. Well, no way! Screwed that cheap plastic stud in, mounted the tire and the damn stud immediately broke off leaving the threaded part firmly ensconced in the wheel. Can't budge it with needle nose pliers, a drill bit or a thread chaser. I'll need to remove the caliper to pull off the disc so I can drill the damn thing out. Anyone have a suggestion for an easier solution?

http://www.flyingmutts.com</a

Ugh that sucks, sorry to hear that. I've never used it, I still may never.

There should be what looks like a plastic cylinder that's threaded on one end and has a hole in the other end. When you remove a wheel, there is no guide to help align it when you put it back on the mounting plate. So, Audi has included this cheap, worthless "tool" that you screw into one of the lug nut holes. You place the wheel on the mounting plate by guiding one of the lug nut holes in the wheel over this guide. Problem is you need to hold the wheel snug against the backing plate and secure it with lug nuts in the other holes, otherwise you end up with what happened to me.

Nice idea! Especially if I heat the end of the screwdriver to seat it. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks!

Default That happened to me before, but I was able to get it out. If all else fails, you can buy a reverse

drill bit from Sears just for these kinds of situations.

Use small long bit, drill a few holes it it to make a 'slot', use big**** driver and back it out.
