What exactly IS the policy on FOR SALE posts here?

I posted a set of wheels for sale here in November, AFTER buying a $5 classifieds ad, and it was promptly deleted by the moderator. Then last week, after a major shipping mishap with FedEx, I posted a WANTED ad here in search of a replacement 4th wheel, without first buying an ad, and again, it was deleted within minutes.
Now I see two For Sale posts here today, and another post with a set of wheels just above it, none of which have corresponding ads in the classifieds, and they've all been up for over 5 hours. What gives?
Just had to vent.
