2003 Allroad 2.5TDI in low power mode--need some tips
Hi All
I've got a 2003 Audi Allroad, which I love (perhaps too much), but it has gone into a 'low power mode' with ABS and traction control light on at all times.
A bit of background on the car:
- right-hand drive
- 2.3 TDI
- just over 200,000 km
I had a coil conversion kit from Blauparts put in as Audi parts are very very expensive here and the specialist mechanics charge amazingly crazy prices (and often don't fix things correctly). It should be noted that the suspension height light is eternally on (doesn't bother me, but perhaps it has an influence on the current situation.
Current problem:
Last week, for no apparent reason, the ABS and ESP light (iirc) came on--both yellow, and it cut into the low-power mode. No brake fluid leaks at all.
Took it to my local mechanic today, and the codes he got were as follows:
Engine code 00550
17125 torque converter circuit
18265 load signal error from ECU
I found a post here that seems very similar. Any tips on how to proceed?

It's now at my mechanics--he is pretty good with it, but we are pretty limited here in Australia in terms of access to particular tech without paying tons, so him and I work together to try and figure out what is going on and order parts from overseas.
Also, I've been thinking of buying a scan tool--I assume you can scan and also do some code resetting etc.? (Like to stop the suspension height light from coming on). Any tips here appreciated as well.
Cheers and thanks for your help,
Enderbee

I should also add that I have had a weird intermittent problem where, sometimes when coming off a steep hill, the car would rev with no power going to the transmission (or little power). No warning lights. This would happen for about 15 seconds once per week, but only after driving up a steep hill.
Torque converter? Read that these can be problematic.
