Correct, the valve covers can and certainly will leak the gaskets were not replaced at some point in their lifetime... I did mine at about 150K miles, yes, they were leaking down causing the burnt oil smell thang that is so common with these 2.7TTs motors.

Also could somebody give me right part # for that Aux Water pump? i see two different models and im confused.
For a 2003 ("BEL" motor), should be pump # 3D0 965 561 D

....earlier "APB" motors (2002) used # 078 965 561.

If you are replacing the aux pump, you are going to need some other parts as well. If you are going to the trouble of getting in there, you might as well replace the hoses and the mounting.

Assuming you have the US (cold climate) edition 2003 onwards you will need:

3D0-965-561-D Additional Water Pump
035-959-209-F Additional Water Pump Mount (2 off)
078-121-082-E Water pipe to additional water pump (Straight)
078-121-082-H Water pipe to additional water pump (Angled)
078-129-717-N Intake Manifold Gasket (2 off)

Plus a variety of hose clamps because you have to cut off the clamped ones.

If you have the Hot climate model ( ie Australia and asia) you change the 2 water pipes above for:

078-122-349-A CHECK VALV
078-121-082-M Hose

The check valve come complete with the hose connections already attached. Don't buy it if you have the cold climate edition, it costs as much as the aux pump.

Here's a picture of when I did mine a few months ago. It is the black part in the center of the picture with all of the coolant that had leaked underneath of it. The picture is taken while standing on the driver's side of the engine with the valve cover taken off.

Here it is if you were standing at the front of the car looking back.

I just did my valve cover gaskets and cam chain tensioner gasket using this kit from Blauparts: http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GF21002-1C

Yes, I meant intake manifold. I have the valve cover gaskets on my mind as they are leaking.

Juno,

Looking at the first photo provided by GOto60 you can see all the cooked coolant under the water pump and where it leaked out the front of the pump around the hose. Part numbers are

water pipe with the bend is: 078-121-082-M
Bosch pump is: 3D0-965-561-D
black rubber rings are the pump mounts: 035-959-209-F (2 off)
pipe-check valve- pipe (all one unit) 078-122-349-A
you also need two inlet manifold gaskets 078-129-717-N

other than that you need some hose clamps as the Audi ones on the vacuum and other lines are the crimp type so you need to replace the ones you cut off.
