2003 audi allroad miles per gallon issue
Hi, i purchased a 2003 audi allroad and i am having a serious concern with mpg and observed some unusual issue. When i fill up the tank and drove 50 miles and than refil it takes only 2 gallons but if i drive over 120 miles in a full tank and than refill it takes more than 11 gallons to refill. So the problem i am having is first 50 miles in a full tank gives me an average of 25 mpg but if i drive over 100 miles average goes down to 12mpg. Does anyone else have this issue. I also just changed O2 sensor but dont seem to be getting any better but again just to clarify my question. "i fill up my tank drive 50 miles and refil it takes only 2 gallons" but in a full tank and i drive 130 miles and refil it takes 11 galons"
Can someone please let me know if this is a normal and what is the average miles per galon on this car? i would greatly appreciate an answer.

When you are topping off gas at a gass station the pump is going to shut off so you don't spill gas. Therefore I'm sure you could fit 4 gallons instead of 2 which would bring down your mpg output... Also your gas gauge might be off. It's usually the other way: after the car warms up, the gas mileage improves.

you verified this multiple times by going to the same pump and calculating mpgs by hand (eg. miles driven from last fill up divided by gallons pumped?).
Only asking b/c it doesn't make sense what you described. There is no way you ever got 25mpg unless you were driving 40-45mph in 6th all the time.
Conversely, to get 12mpg it takes some serious sprinting around town in my stage 3.

I get 22 mpg on average for the longest time, But this number depends on all kinds of factors in driving
For what you have got in a allroad it is good car on fuel and also quick.....BUT you cant have it both at the same time. lol

Downtown traffic (think Manhattan commute) i get about 12 mpg in my Allroad, or V8 A6. My mazda3 will even get about 15-17 mpg.
On the highway, my mileage is as advertised or slightly better as through the fueleconomy.gov website.
These Audis are not economy cars. They guzzle gas.

I have tried everything maintenance wise to get my gas mileage to go up, driving reasonably on the highway (70 - 75mph and not dropping it too much) I get around 18-19, if I am cruising around 80 I get 17ish... If I am having fun and say to hell with it, 15ish... I have an automatic...

Is the car running in open loop? Is your thermostat always open? If you got a bad thermostat, it could be stuck open, and your car never warms up to the proper temperature, in which case it will affect your mileage.
