Default 2005 Allroad Tiptronic ... 175,000 miles

So I have this 2005 AR TIP with 175k miles. I do not know when the tranny fluid has ever been serviced. I'm starting to see a fluctuation in RPM's in 5th gear at low RPM's and of course the AR wants to put the car in 5th all the time. If I manually shift I don't have have the problem or if I put it into "sport mode" the high RPM's don't seem to slip. I do know I have the later model AR with the "better" torque converter...

1. Should I replace the tranny fluid and filter? Or is that more or less the nail in coffin? By changing the tranny fluid and filter will that help restore some pressure? perhaps the filter is clogging up?

2. Anyone know any good Audi tranny shops in the Mid-Atlantic Area?

Sounds like the ole torque converter needs a rebuild....common for C5 tiptronics. BTDT with an RS6.
