2006 allroad
looks like good news for the allroad. I just got back from europe and I happened to see a picture for the new allroad that they say will show at the detroit auto show this January. It also showed a Q7 Pikes Peak, and a Q5. I bought the Magazine and will try to post the pictures if I can remember how to

Re: 2005 allroad
yes, you are right, it is for 2006. I have a pic in the magazine I bought I just don't have a way to post it. I suppose I can take a picture of the magazine pic, but I don't think it would turn out very well

X3 competitor, not a new allroad
This article is about a new SUV based on the A4 platform, not quite a new allroad.
The article says (basically):
The Q5 is set for a Fall 2007 debut to above all compete with the X3. In contrast to the VW Golf SUV (to come out at the beginning of 2008) which will have tranverse mounted engines, Audi is set on fitting the Q5 with a longitudinal engine installation. This arrangement permits the installation of a V8 powertrain which indispensable for the US market. Volkswagen must be content with the high end Golf SUV having six cylinders.
The AUDI SUV attack will have already started by Fall 2005 with the Q7 which is based on the Pikes Peak study. This mixture of a Jeep and grand tourer is based on the technology and components of the VW Touareg but without its offroad ability (no low gear, no protectors [differential, I guess...] The Q7 has a longer wheelbase and will have seating for up to seven.
[The article says to read more in the next issue about all the various models listed, one of which you can see down there is a new A6-allroad... so maybe... keep checking back]
-----
SUVs are still classified (as is the allroad) as a light truck, so bringing more of these "light trucks" to market in the US lets Audi sell more high performance cars that the market wants and keeps them in line with US CAFE requirements.
Too bad they can't sell the TDI models in the States. They're awesome cars but there's no low-sulfur diesel in the US yet and they won't pass the upcoming emission standards. Unless Bosch pulls something out of their sleeve in the next couple years. I for one am sick of getting 13 mpg in my allroad.

Both are happening... it sounds like.
Didn't read the post below. auto motor und sport is saying that there will be a new allroad based on the new a6 avant.
Looks like it could get interesting.

here's a really bad pic

I took a picture of the magazine photo, it's pretty bad but you can definately see the allroad characteristics. Black fenders, front skid plate, it also has chrome mirrors and the twin spoke wheels. I'll try and scan the pic later today for a better resolution shot.

Skid plate! That's the word I was looking for...
Interesting if Audi were to extend the allroad nameplate as a package across the range instead of making it disappear like some of us thought.
There is the VW Polo Dune in Europe, which has the allroad look, but no air suspension, and Alfa Romeo now has the 147 Crosswagon Q4 (which verges on some patent infringement if you ask me...), and Volvo's XC 70 is still going strong, as is the Legacy Outback.
Crossover fever!
