Default 411 miles to my tankful yesterday AND I was able to put 20.5 gallons of gas into the tank...how?

Went down to the East Coast Meet yesterday (some nice cars there; one a bit over the top).

I have a "Cam Sensor" MIL (related to last work done on car I am sure), but I was still able to get over 400 miles to my tank of gas.

When I went to the pump (with only 5 miles remaining until I was empty), I was able to pump 20.5 gallons of gas into the tank.

My needle did not come off full until I had 90 miles on the tank.

How?

Some will say I have a two gallon reserve tank, but I am not sure how that works, so.....

Default Fuel tankage question too

I've been pretty absent minded lately and gotten down to the dash warning level which says I've got 25miles of gas left. Is that the 2 gallon reserve "after" that or am I in reserve at that point. I read the book and it's not clear.

Default The way I understand it...

you have 2.5 gallons left in the tank (including reserve) when the low gas notification comes on (the gas pump symbol and the nasty beep). The "miles to empty" display includes this "extra" reserve.

Default Theivery...plain and simple...

no way you have 4 gallons of extra space in there...should be less than 1 gallon...

There is no 'reserve tank'...just a 2 gallon mark where the alarm goes off.

You should report the station to whomever controls that sort of thing...if you care enough...

Default Forget the "miles to empty"...when the alarm goes off, you have ~ 2 gallons left...

no matter what the "miles to empty" says. If you turn off the car after the alarm goes off, then turn it back on, the miles to empty almost always says "0". Ignore it...just plan on ~25-35 miles from when the alarm goes off...and in the case of your gas-sucking allroads...expect closer to 25!

Default Second that, there are some Gas stations in NJ who try the same sh.t.

Save the receipt, or better remain at the pump and call the cops or state inspector office.
I've got 18.5 gallons in a 16 gallon tank? No way!
How about physics...hmmm!?
The link will explain a little bit about how it's being done and what are the reasons for "overcharges", focused on AZ at this time.

http://www.azstarnet.com/dailystar/relatedarticles/21365.php</a

Default The tank holds 17.5 . that's it. The miles to empty is a guess by the computer

based on how you drive and your average mileage. The "reserve" is the last 2 gals in the tank, when the alarm goes off. It's not exact either. Still you got ripped. Keep your receipt and mail a complaint to the attorney general.

Default hmm, is damn strange because I got 154 miles to my first quarter tank

and I normally can't even get 90. Wondering what the hell I did.

I put so much fuel in it came SPEWING out of my fill tube.

I was trying to put as much as possible in just to see how much the car would "really" hold...I mean FULL and after I put 9.01 gallons of 93 in, then I started putting in 89. 9, 10, 10.5, 11 and finally 11.5...unbelieveable...

Yeah, I should have gotten receipts (I did not), but I paid for each one on my credit card and it will show the receipt....easy to figure out as I still remember the prices (2.369 and 2.279).

Thanks for the feedback, BTW...good info.
