6 speed Allroad vs. A8
I recently traded my beloved 1995 UrS6 for a 2002 A8L. I miss the S6, like the A8L but the tranny issues on the A8 forum, make me question the wisdom of my purchase.
Is the 6 speed Allroad pretty reliable? Are there huge issues with the 6 speed vs. an auto tranny?
There is a 6 speed 2004 Allroad that is tempting me, but I do not want to rush into the purchase.

Love my '04 6 speed allroad
Like my other posts (am I tempting fate?) my ride has been really reliable / enjoyable / cool. 6 speed is the overwhelming favorite tranny on the board here. There is an annoying tip lag with the auto. The manny is faster, but the gear change from 1-2 is a little balky.
It just hissed a little at me in the garage after unloading some stuff. That's the load leveling feature, just reminding me how cool it is.

6 SP Manual GOOD - 6 SP Tiptronic....
Well...we all know why we buy cars with manual transmissions. If you find a 6 SP M you like, drive it, leave your number and tell them you'll think about it. Tell them you really wanted a car with a NAV system. Eventualy they call you every other day until the deal is right for you. I love my '02 because the 6 SP M really helps me to handle such a big, heavy car. Good luck!

2.7T transmission issue
I've replaced a few torque converters on 2.7t A6's and Allroads. Theres a seal in the torque converter that fails causing the "lockup" to not work. The only thing you'll propably would notice would be the check engine light.

Let us know
I tried to buy an identical used '03 6 speed from a dealer, but ended up with the '04 new for less than the other would bargain for on the '03. Who knows if any '05 manuals remain? Check it out. Either way, it's sweet!

Too late to chime in? Can't go wrong with an allroad six speed.
I've driven my dads 01 A8L and find my allroad much more sporting and engaging to drive. It's got MUCH better steering feel, and the manny tranny is fun. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad's 8. THe're just different.
Also, despite the fact my car had 42000 miles when I bought it, I think it was barely broken in. Transmission shifts have become smoother, and engine runs better. Previous owner must have been a lightfooted put put putter.
Good luck.
