You don't need plugs unless you're planning on removing the seats every weekend and lack of plug would be a matter of convenience issue rather than functionality. Just splice the wires directly into you new harness.

While the heated seats are nice, the heated steering wheel ARs came with is even nicer. I just love mine. My hands never freeze from cold steering wheel .

I bought a 2002 Allroad last month and have been doing a lot of research on adding heated seats. I pulled out my passenger seat today and looked for "extra wires." After pulling apart the middle section of the wiring harnes, I did find 2 sets of wires that did not go to anything. So now my question is, are these the wires for the heating elements in the seats? They are the same colored wires that go to the red power connector (brown and red). I've included some pictures.

This would be a good write up to include at allroadFAQ once you get a handle on it and/or do it.

Update on the seat wiring. A friend of a friend has an '01 Allroad and I looked at their seat wiring today. There were 4 wires going from the seat to the green plug, 2 brown (which I confirmed I have) and 1 black and yellow/ 1 black and white. I'm pretty sure the brown is for the power. I'm going to pull my seat out again and look for the other 2 wires. I've included a pic (sorry it's blurry).

Volkswagen/Audi have consistently used brown wires for ground/earth for many years so I'd be very surprised if it was anything other than that.

Keifer,
Are your seats still available?
Do they have the seat-heat option?
Is there any wear in the lower portion of the back support section? (My 2002 allroad seats have worn out over the heating element wire harness -- harness is exposed and seats run real hot.)
Thanks ... John
