My daughter is heading to Stanford and I'm looking for advice on a car for her. first car first time driver, insurance, title (has it dropped yet)
etc. My thought was an AA A4 Avant 1.8T, but she's thinking mini cooper. Oh yeah, I'm paying!

The Mini!
If I didn't need to stuff 20lbs of **** into a 10lb bag every time I went on a roadtrip, there's a good chance I'd be driving a Mini Cooper S instead of the allroad. But alas, a growing family, dog, and all accompanying stuff, makes the Mini a tad impractical!!
Been trying to convince the wife to swap her Miata for a new Mini convertible when they come out, with no luck.

How do you feel about your daughter, an inexperienced driver, in the smallest car sold in the
country? I can understand why she would choose the Mini: major cool factor. I'm sure your daughter is all grown up and doesn't need to be sheltered but...if it were me, I would insist on some extra measure of safety.

I'll be getting my daughter an old Volvo automatic.... safe and slow....
seriously- I have a few years....my munchkin is just 2. But if I was to get a duaghter a car these days, I'd be looking at an A4, Volvo S60, or even a VW Passat 4Motion. But no wagons!!! Oh what they can do in the back of a wagon. Sorry, I'm a worrying dad already.
