The wiring may be incorrect. You can monitor the operation of this sensor with the VCD or scanner.

But what would your guess be on whats causing the problem? Youre talking about loss of air pressure

The problem with the air spring system is that you can drive for a long time(Without knowing) with pressure leaks from the air system. This causes two troubles: The compressor works overtime until it fails. The second problem is the humidity (water) that accumulates in the system. The driver receives a warning only when the compressor heats up and can not overcome the Air leaks.
.You must find and fix all the pressure leaks from the air system.
In connection with code 01769, the height sensor may be faulty or not connected correctly (Wire soldering). I would suggest you look for a used height sensor with its power plug.
As I said, you can follow the sensor with VCD'S or with a suitable scanner
