Default airbag/strut replacement question

I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me.
Just purchased an 01 ar, and the front left airbag is leaking down. They have ordered a new LH stut as well. My question is, should the Rh strut be replaced as well. mileage is 50k. I'm in process of reading thru this group, and this topic has probally been killed to death, but should they be replaced in pairs, or does it matter, I'm not that familiar with these cars, yet. Does anyon know the AoA reconmendation, does one exist?

thanks in advance
dan

Default First off, are you sure the leak is in the bag itself?

If it is in the line or at the valve block you could be replacing parts for nothing.

If it is the bag that is bad (very rare around here but not out of question) I would think that a bag can be replaced individually. The dampers will probably have a difference between new and 50K miles. Whether or not this makes a difference to you probably depends on how sensitive you are to the cars handling.

Default Re: airbag/strut replacement question

a little more info...the mechanic requested the parts to the service manager. Thats as far as I've gotten from them today, then they they need to bring it to the dealer to have it adjusted. does that sound right ?

Default If you have 50K.. chances are AoA will warranty this repair.

I'd call them first. They generally Good Will borderline warranty cases that ar big components. In addition if your is a certified.. its covered anyway.

Default When my Right front strut was replaced....

under warranty at 23,000 miles, AoA would not replace the other strut. Their policy is that ther is no issue with different age of the struts. I dasagree, but have found no adverse effect. Granted 23k is much different from 50K.

Also, they replaced my strut after chasing air leaks in the lines for 2 weeks. Turned out to be the strut after all.

Default Did you have the H-sports on when they did the warranty work?

Just curious in terms of "what" the dealer might claim was caused by the new sways....seems like it could be somewhat open ended.....

Default Yup....

At first the tech "suggested" that the sway bars were partially to blame. But a quick logical conversation with the service manager put that to rest. Especially when they found a smal pinhole in the bladder... how would sway bars cause a hole?

Nope. I replaced my 4th bag recently, each about 20,000 miles apart

Default Yes, just seems like they will be a magnet for a dealer...

to latch on to and avoid warranty work if possible (although that makes little sense, to me)

Default Guess it depends on the dealer...

My dealer is great to work with. A few minor glitches here and there, but I really like the way I'm treated.
