Allroad 2.7T v A4 3.0 quattro ...
I have an A4 3.0 Quattro manual and a 2.7 Allroad tip. I would love to know which of these two cars has better overall performance. The performance statistics which I have seen (done at coastal altitude) appear to favour the A4 3.0 but from my personal experience the Allroad feels a bit faster particularly from +- 100 miles/hr onwards.
I'm very curious; any thoughts/experiences??

Well, w/o having driven the two back to back, I can tell you several things...
The 3462lbs/220hp/221ft-lb A4 manual, will accellerate to 60mph faster than the 4233lbs/250hp/258ft-lb allroad tip - due to a better power to weight ratio, and a manual transmission, and a significantly shorter 1st gear.
At 100mph, the allroad's 250hp & 258ft-lbs might help it push through wind a bit better than the A4.
In twisties, the A4's lower mass and and lower center of gravity will both contribute to better latteral grip, and the ability to break deeper into a turn. Here too, a better power to weight ratio and a manual transmission will help the A4 exit corners more quickly than the allroad - all in the hands of a competent driver.
Off road, on long interstate cruises, at high speed, or carrying loads/towing, the allroad will be more stable, quiet and comfortable. It will probably accellerate with less effort at interstate speeds.
So, it really depends on what you call performance, as to which vehicle actually performs better. But you have both... so it doesn't matter. =)

Well I had an A4 3.0 and traded it for my allroad after 6 months...
The allroad rips the A4 up hands down. Granted - like the A4, my ar is a 6-speed. Thus, I can't tell you much about the Tip performance. The lack of G-force power was the primary impetus for trading up to the allroad.

From having driven both back-to-back I can tell you that the A4 had better cornering and overall high-speed performance handling, but it was lighter, smaller, and I had the Sport package which lowered the car significantly compared to my non-402'd ar.
I just could never get over the fact that my $41k A4 had less sensible thrust and throttle response than my 2000 V6 Passat did. There was also this weird half second of hesitation upon launch. Funny thing is, when I had an A6 3.0 CVT as a loaner a few months back, it had the same hesitiation so I marked it up as a definite drawback to the 3.0 engine.
Hope this helps.

A 6sp allroad should be able to out-accellerate a 6spd A4 3.0, by a little...
Audi's published numbers put the 6-spd allroad faster by 1/10s both to 60mph and to the 1/4 mile... But launch technique and shift speed will make more of a difference than the cars themselves.
Whether or not out-accellerate equals outperform, is up to ones personal definition. It doesn't in my book. =)
