I have a 1999 A6 Avant auto. About 150k on the motor. Just bought it for $900. Getting ready to do the timing kit. I would like to do a 6 speed swap. The body has a ding in the passenger rear fender and few other little cosmetic things. I have seen a few 6peed AR's locally with bad engines but good trannies, boddies and interiors. These have been going for around the $1000'ish range. So I thought about transferring the 2.8L over and and a few other parts. I actually like the fender flares and a bumper that doesn't catch on things as easy. I would delete the air system.
So I know I would need to get a CAN ECU for the 2.8L as mine is all K-Line I believe. What else will mix and match and how much is compatible? Also, when all the proprietary AR stuff is swapped for basic A6 stuff, what's the weight difference in the vehicles?
Anyone who has done this or has a writeup, please chime in. I know most people go the other way on a swap, but I want the 2.8L dependability and the AR's better clearances for snow and just better at not snagging on stuff.

That's a pretty technical job you've got planned and probably not something many have attempted.
I usually read most threads out of interest, regardless of my knowledge or experience on the subject, and I suspect many others do as well.
Have you tried posting in other Audi forums?
