allroad engine coolant temp sensor replacement 2.7T 6MT (photo heavy)
Hey folks, please review and post any ammendments.. thought this could be added to FAQ or tech section.
Degree of difficulty: one-half wrench
Time required: 30 Minutes
Tools required: 3/8" rachet, 3/8" medium extension, 10mm 3/8" socket, long handle flat blad screw driver, stubby flat blade screwdriver, dental pick curved or 90 degree
parts required:
engine coolant sensor green four pin : 059 919 501A
parts reccomended:
retainer spring clip: 032 121 142
o-ring: N 903 168 02
NOTE**** car should be stone cold before attempting this repair. Hot coolant is just that.. HOT = BURN = SCALD.

1.) remove decorative engine and air box covers

2.) remove (3) 10mm bolts on intake pipe

3.)loosen clamps, remove rubber connectors (2) passenger side (ps) & driver side (ds)

4.) remove vac connector from intake pipe (caution fragile) squeeze sides of QD connector on textured areas and slowly remove

5.)disconnect MAF from harness

6.) unclamp MAF hasps (2)

7.)disconnect MAF from air box
8.)Lift entire intake assembly towards firewall

9.) disconnect rear egr vac tube from accordian hose

10.) place intake assembly to the side
11.)Disconnect PS cam timing sensor & PS egr tube.. use same method as QD removal above

12.) locate ect sensor

13.) careful pry out retaing clip, NOTE: ** as soon as you remove old ect coolant will drain, be prepared to seat new ect imediately upon removal. O-ring replacement is not photographed, to replace 0-ring remove it with the dental pick or your finger, seat new o-ring on new ect sensor and insert sensor. Keep down pressure on ect sensor with dental pick as you install retaining spring clip.

Re-assembly in reverse order.

Good pictures. You did way more disassembly than needed.
One thing you need to add is to remove the coolant reservior cap and replace cap before you begin. This will relieve the pressure in the system and then vacuum lock everything. You didn't do this and that's why a bunch of coolant shot out at you.

hate aligning spring clamps on accordian hose, easier for me to pull assembly...
after plugs/coil packs changes I can do it without thinking. also more room to play. even with coolant cap "pressure release" fluid still comes out. most systems are in vaccum when cold, but gravity takes over once the ect sensor is pulled.
