Default Alternative Tyres

Had a new set of tyres fitted yesterday Pirelli Scorpion S/T. Pirelli do quite a few alternatives for the OEM allroad tyres. Firstly they were 40% cheaper. They have a much better and deeper tread, which should be good for when the car is off road. The Pirelli web site rates them good for snow driving.

Even though they have a more aggressive tread pattern, at 90 mph last night on the motorway there was no noticeable increase in noise, it even appeared quieter. The tyre is only rated to 130 mph but for the speed freak they even do a high performance versions.

Default I've been researching tires since I bought the ar 5 months ago

and I'm quite set on getting a 235/50-17 (<2% speedo error - P6000 or P-Zeros for $160 at the tire rack). Assuming the tires last 25K miles, Instead of reading 25000 miles on the odometer, it will show about 25450 instead.

What about 255/50 R17. These would read 2% under on the mileage. Would have to check if the tyre fitted on the rim. Pirelli do a Scorpion Zero in this size as a High Performance SUV tyre. Maybe next time

Default There isn't much space between suspension parts and the tires with the OEM rims

If it fits, it'll be really tight.

Default Tirerack website recommends 245x45x18. Check site for comparisons...

I have been looking as well. I ordered a tire/wheel package from them for a Honda Accord EX-V6 about a year ago and was very happy with the experience, both on-line and via telephone. They have only 3 wheels recommended for the allroad in the 18" size. Check out their site for tire comparisons. I'm leaning towards the SO3 (good reviews regarding dry and wet handling). Good luck in your search.

http://www.tirerack.com</a
