Automatic Transmission Problem
Remember hearing something about this but I couldn't find anything in the forums. The Automatic Trans Shifter is difficult to put into drive and won't go into sport mode.I believe there was a problem shifter part in the early allroads? Anyone know of this?

Looks like a new Torque Convertor is needed!
3 Months owning the car : O2 Sensors x 2 700.00 Air Compressor 400.00 Front Windshield 200.00 Insurance Spider Assmebly 200.00 Bent Wheels x2 1000.00 New Transmission ?????..... |
In another thread the poster said he bought an uprated (high performance) TC from IPT for $675, don't know how this compares to the factory uprated part, but might be worth looking into.

How did you determine the torque converter has failed? The symptoms you describe sound like a linkage problem. I would first check to see if any debris (coins) have fallen down into the shifter mechanism.

This is definatley a Transmission problem.First started with reverse slipping and then loss of power on hills. The car is a 2003 and most pre 2004 models dont have the updated Torque Convertor seals. From what I have read and heard locally it is a common problem.
Lucky for me I bought extended warranty just have to wait and see what they say. New Trans in Canada is 6000 plus the 17 hours of labour ++++ The Audi shop here does not do rebuilds just a swap? Thanks for the feed back on IPT they have a new trans for around 4500 |
Are there certain VINs that are affected? Or like a split in a year? When did Audi start putting updated seals?
THanks. Vlad. |

My understanding is they changed the seals, that's all I know, and that all replacements are of the newer style.....it sounds like there are two different problems being associated with the same symptom, problems backing up. One may cause the other.....

Thanks. After digging around more, I came up with the TSB on allroadfaq.com.
I'm a noobie allroad owner, so I'm still learning about the car. :) |
