Default Bridgestone Potenza S03's

My OEM Pirellis are shot at 20k miles and I'm looking for something different. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S appears to be the tyre of choice, but unfortunately not available here in Europe (Ireland). I'm considering the Bridgesonte S03. Has anyone any experience of the thread life for these tyres? I don't want to go below 20k in terms of lifespan. All my driving is on road and I generally don't have to worry about snow here in Ireland. BTW, my car is the Allroad 2.5 TDi.

Default I've burned through a set in 10k miles in 235/40-18 size on my S4...

...I would have expected them to last 15k based on my previous experiences with other tires on my S4. So I am not happy with tire wear. How cold does it typically get in Ireland? S-03's, like most maximum performance tires do not do so great once the temperature drops below 40 degrees F.

Rarely gets below 40 so temp isn't a problem.

Default This tyre is not listed in Europe.....

High performance Yokohama's don't appear to be available in 225/55 17.

Default The Falken contingent chimes in...

...but, as with most reccommendations... 'it depends.'

It depends on what's important to you: longevity, ride comfort, road noise, ultimate road handling in a variety of situations, price, tread design, all season performance (readL 3 season), etc...

The S-03's are much more sport oriented than the Falken Ziex ZE-512 that I like, but I am not much for tossing my 2 ton sportwagon about like an autocrosser. Of course, I neither go desert dueling, nor am I QUITE ready for summers and dedicated snows yet, so I chose the Falken and have been rather happy with them so far.

They are inexpensive, have a strong wear rating, are speed rated over the stock limiter, and do reasonably well for an all season (3 season) asked to perform in the snow and wet. as a datpoint, I was a big fan of the Dunlop SP-9000's for my NSX... enough grip, good roadhandling, great wear, good wet perormance, and nice and quiet. No ultimates in any sense of the word, but a good solid performer in a lot of different territories.

(sort of like a car I know).

Default My next option is either the Azenis ST 115 or the 451's. I'm running Nokians WR-V's for winter and

looking for a 3 season tire. Search the archives. You'll find quite a few happy Falken users...

I think the S03 is over hyped.
