Can you retrofit rear seat side airbags?
I was wondering if you can retrofit the rear seat side airbags? My 2005 does not have them, but I would like to instal some if I could. Is the wiring already in place? I would imagine you could, since they would use the same sensors as the side curtains and front seat side airbags. Anyone done this before? Thanks.

As I have them and they are integrated into the seats I would assume by retrofit you
mean find the seats from one that had been parted out after an accident...to me that might be a little scary as how would you know for certain that they weren't deployed. Just my initial thoughts.

I thought they began with the 04 model year, I'm surpised Dutch's 05 doesn't.
There should be an indicator wherever there is an airbag - a little plastic tag or embossement that says "airbag". You can see one at the top of the B-pillar where it meets the roof.

They replace the fixed foam piece on rear seatback
They go in place of the outboard section of rear seat-back cushion that is attached to the car. It would seem a simple swap to me. They are listed as an option in 2005 for sure. Might have to set a bit in the airbag control module with the VAG-COM to let it know the bag is plugged in.
