Cargo cover repaired!
 

Putting it back in the car right now to test it. I posted a few weeks ago asking if anyone ever fixed theirs. Mine stopped retracting.

A DIY with PICs would be great!!!!!!!!!!!

Was the driver's side plastic end broken?
 

I took mine apart and found the plastic end piece broken beyond repair. I am definitely interested in a DIY. I hope you took some time to take some photos and notes!

Well here's some what of a DIY.

1. Located the end that has a torx screw with a little numb in the middle (not sure what you call this type of screw). I'm pretty sure it was the driver side. This is the ONLY end that you will take apart.

2. Unscrew the 2 philips screws.

3. After you remove the 2 philips, pull the plastic end cover off the cargo cover case. You'll be pulling out the spring with the center rod.

4. With the rod and spring removed and still attached to the plastic end cover, you'll notice that the center rod spins freely or is loose. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. This center rod shouldn't spin at all. That's how it unwinded itself.

5. Now that you've examined the busted part. Remove the torx screw (with nub). I used a small flat head and later on replaced it with a philips screw. This will free the center rod from the plastic end cover.

6. Look inside the plastic cover and remove 2 small philips screws that's holding the black plastic spring mechanism to the plastic end cover. Once this is removed, you'll notice where the torx screw comes through the plactic end cover and through a cylinder shaped mold, it's all cracked! Mine was. Tthe center rod fits right in this cylinder shaped mold. It has small notches that prevent the rod from spinning as well. That's what you need to fix. We'll at least for me.

7. I carefully crazy glued all the tiny broke plastic pieces to rebuild the cylinder shaped mold that the torx screw comes through. Once dried, I mixed some epoxy and completely surrounded the cylinder shaped mold. Making sure not to put too much, I test fitted the plastic spring mechanism in the plastic end cover.

8. Let dry. Reassemble everything. As you're sliding everything back in, right before you put the plactic cover back on, wind the sucker up amd put the plastic cover back on. Done!

First DIY write up. I think I confused myself! HA! Sorry for the lack of pics, but once you open the sucker up and with my so caled DIY, you'll figure it out.

I thought mine was beyond repair too but enough epoxy will do the trick.
 

Do you still have all the little broken plastic piece? Just carefully glue it back together.

I may take mine apart again to take some more cell phone pics of the epoxy job.
