Default CEL follow up - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor

So I took my AR to an indy last week for service and to check the CEL. He told me it was the ECT Sensor and he reset it without replacing it. If the CEL comes back on he will need to replace the sensor..... $300 estimate.

CEL came on again today. I've read through the archives and have a few questions before I replace it.

I'm assuming it's the same fault code and replacing the ECT will fix the problem. Is this a mistake without a new scan? I don't have VAGscan.

Assuming i replace the ECT and this solves the problem do I need to reset anything to get the CEL to go off?

I'm all for DIY but want to make sure I understand the situation before diving in. I don't want to go back to my indy hat in hand if you know what I mean.

Thanks all!

Default How about $60 bucks if he screws around for a half hour before doing it.

Is EVERYBODY a friggin crook these days???? And yes you'll need a way to reset the CEL, and a generic scan tool can do this. It's not hard to do but it's not real easy to access.

Default DIY - takes about 30 minutes start to finish.

CEL should reset itself, but if not, THEN take it to your indy to have him reset it. ;o)

Default get is done for free.. AOA extended the warranty on this part.

just ask your dealer.. most of us original owners received a letter about this.

FYI.. my indy replaced mine. I bought the part for 35.00 at riverside, he put it in for free.
