Default CHIP WARNING!!!! GIAC Chip goes up in smoke.

I chipped my allRoad last December and today the car went into limp mode. The only solution so far is to replace both computers. $1700CAD ouch!!!

It was fun while it lasted, 22,000kms

Scott in Vancouver.

Both computers? I'm confused. are you referring to the tip ECU and the engine ECU?

Sounds like you're quoting the dealer's explanation to the problem.

and if it is, contact GIAC, it might be as simple as a loose socket/bad solder

emailed GIAC no response. The local dealer is nowhere to be found either.

Default I've dealt with GIAC for a bit.....he stopped dealing with individual customers

as he was busy with school. His response is to use one of the dealers. I hope that you manage to hook up with the shop you bought from.
Just a few suggestions first:
1) Check that the TBB is in good shape - not torn etc.
2) Check that the hoses are all secure as one of them might poped off.
3) Quick check that the BPVs (by-pass valves) are in good shape (search the S4 forum- there is a way to check if they are torn.)
4) Unplug the chips for a couple of mins. and throttle readept etc and give the engine a try again.
If all else fails, try working with a different distributor. There was a shop I worked with near LA and they treated me well even though I bought my chip (S4) directly from GIAC.
Minor inconvenience compared with parting with $1700.

Default The ECU is chipped the TCU was socketed but not chipped yet. Then the GIAC dealer went AWOL.

I could just order the ECU (1-2 weeks) then see if everything is OK, if not it's another 1-2 weeks to order the TCU. If I just replace both I could possibly save 2 week rental car, which is more than the cost of a TCU....

Just upset that the local GIAC dealer went AWOL.

Scott.

Default How do you know its because of the ECU or the chip?

My car went into limp mode because of a bad MAF sensor...others had limp mode happen because of bad bypass valves and torn throttle body & f-hoses.

Tell us more!
