Default clean engine compartment?

AR in for first 5000 mile service. I have a coolant leak, and there's some yucky stuff in the engine compartment. When I asked the service writer if they could clean up the mess, he said, "We can do some spot cleaning, but that stuff is corrosive and we're connected to the public sewer, so we can't do a thorough [with water, I guess] cleaning".

What do you think? Give them low marks on the survey if it's not clean? Insist that they reimburse me for an engine cleaning elsewhere?

I think it's funny that they'd let admittedly corrosive residue sit in your engine compartment

Default Simple green...

Spray it all over your engine compartment and then hose the hell out of it with a pressure washer or spray nozzle. This is according to my service advisor. Just don't set the pressure washer on to high, and dont spray water directly onto the coil area...

Default Thats a great answer! --- what do they do with the stuff normally? Bottle it?

I love some of the answers we get from the dealers. There must be a special part of the training they go thru to come up with that stuff. Of course some people are just good liars. I would politely point out the inappropriate nature of the answer and show the service writer the happy Andrew Jackson you have in your pocket with his name on it. Somehow the water sewer problem will evaporate (!)

Default right color -- wrong idea

give em a 20 and the problem goes away without all the messy bother.

Default Followup...

I called up the service manager, and he said he meant it's "hazardous waste", not "corrosive". Hmmm. In any case, when they called and told me they needed to get a new coolant tank, they told me they would clean it up when they replaced the tank an a few weeks. Seems fine to me since it will continue leaking until then.

Default Last time I gave a 4 on the Audi survey the service writer called within an hour and chewed me out

and hung up on us ... we will never participate in their survey again and will only have our Benz service writer assist us in the future.
