CRAP!!! My allroad's in the shop again for transmission problems

I was driving yesterday around 4:00 pm and the freakin check engine light comes on again. Same problem - torque converter will not lock up in any gear. This means that the valve body and the torque converter both have to be replaced. They are going to have to try and locate the part in the states but if they have to go overseas to get it I'm going to be without my allroad for a month. AoA you better have me an Audi to drive because I'm not paying $50,000 to drive a damn Jetta...

Jetta: The incestual love child of Porsche & Audi! 8-)

Get Audi to make the car payments if it is out for too long.

I assume it's a Tip. How many miles? Also, what was the code when they cleared you check engine light, or did they tell you?

The tranny is Audi's Achilles heel - keep your documentation for lemon law

I had a tranny go in my '96, a factory REBUILT tranny was $8,000. AoA stepped up and replaced it no charge (I was three months out of warranty) but it was a real shocker.

So, when/if you qualify (three repairs in this state) I would invoke the lemon law. Sounds like you're 2/3 there.

And I would DEFINITELY consider extended warranty purchase when car comes off lease/warranty after 39 months. May cost $2,500, but it's probably worth it, given A) how expensive parts are, B) how well Audis hold their resale value. What good is a 50% resale if the tranny's shot?

6,900 miles TIP and the code was ??? P0741 ???

The fault code said the the transmission was unable to achieve full lockup from the torque converter. Dayne (my allroad mechanic) said he's seen 2 like this and once they replace the valve body and the converter that everything is fine. Funny though - I never had this problem in my '99 A6 Tip...

Good points. I'll look into extended waranty. Thanks

Chipped or stock ?

In Colorado, 30 days out of service qualifies for lemon law replacement
