Default Dealer advised running regular during winter?

Had to have the allroad towed to the dealer at the beginning of this week. Replaced a bad coil and the dealer recommended switching to regular gas during the winter months due to issues with the premium blend - have not heard this before and was some what suprised - has anyone else out there been told the / run regular during winter months? Located in Wisconsin

Default never heard that in all my life. make no sense as the car will detune itself.

to accomodate the loss of octane.

Didn't make any sense to me either and argued down to the point that Audi has premium published for everthing you read - filled up with the ole 93 tonight. Wanted to see if others were getting the same info from their dealers in the northern region. Dealer is van dyn hoven audi out of Appleton.

Default midgrade MAYBE

but definantly not regular. the 2.7t is a high performance engine, and needs higher rated fuel.

I have heard(from my dealer) that the winter blends for premium have a lot of additives that are not so good for the car. I was told this after I had a misfire during the winter months(running premium) on my A4, and they told me it was probably because the fuel was so/so.

That said, I still run premium year round.

My dealer has recommended mid-grade for winter since my A4.

Default I mix regular & premium in winter w/ temps close to 0° F at night.

Regular is more volatile and promotes easier starts & better cold-running performance.

With that *&%* alcohol in the fuel now it's tough to know what works best. Because of the alcohol I'm going to run more regular this winter.
