Does the allroad have a mecahnical fan???
I have noticed that it is really loud and always on. I cannot help but assume this is a mechanical fan (read: power robbing mechanical fan).
Although....since I got the allroad, new, I have constantly run with the air circulating. That could be it.

Can you use the same fan kit as the S4????
I have seen this mod floating around somewhere, but as an A4 owner, I always wondered what the purpose was it served....now I know!

Yes, plus an aux electric fan in front of radiator
speaking of which, mine seems to be making a lot of noise right now. Anyone experience this? It whirs really loud and makes me want to run with my ECON button pushed to keep compressor from engaging.

Mine started playing up last year and was making a godawful whine...
like an air raid siren. The only way to stop it was to turn the A/c off ('01 model). When dealer fixed it they told me that debris thrown up from the road had shorted fan unit. It has worked fine since.

They did not replace the whole unit, but I think they did ...
replace a part and they cleared the debris. I will check service record at home later and see if it gives any more information.
I don't know whether the short caused the whine or whether the debris blocking the fan caused the whine and then the short - I guess that would make more sense. When I collected the car I was in a hurry and my service rep was away, so I didn't get the full story.
