Default Does anyone know whether 255/45-17's would fit

I think a little more tire would look great under our fender flares. Anyone ever try?

Default Think they would!

But you might want to check the diameter, could be a bet small.

Default If you're thinking Pilot Sport A/Ss, they're not speced to fit on a 7.5" wide rim in that size...

That would be a whole lot of extra sidewall.

Default I was hoping you would chime in -- that's what I thought

is it therefore dangerous to use on 7.5 -- would the tire just roll over? What is the danger of too big a tire?

Since the 255/45/17 Pilot Sport A/S is designed for a 8"-9.5" rim, you might not be able to get a tire store to mount them on a 7.5" rim. I think the issue would be whether or not the bead would sit properly when folded in the extra distance, and the tire store's liability for mounting them on an improper rim size.

Personally, I think it would probably work. It would look a little silly, and be far less than optimal for performance. =) I just don't think stores would be happy about mounting it.

Default Shorter in diameter than stock....

225/55-17 = 26.75"
245/50-17 = 26.65
255/50-17 = 27.03
255/45-17 = 26.03

So the 255/45 is close to 3% shorter in diameter.

Default yes 255-50-17's fit. without 8 mm spacers? i let you know in a couple of weeks when i take them off

i figure if yzf996fltri can get 245-45-18(at 9.8" wide) on 32 et offset to fit i should be able to get 255-50-17(at 10.2"wide) to fit on 25 et offset. as for what they look like, they look like suv tires and handles a whole lot better then stock goodyear tires did. the continental contiextremecontact would be better for snow(from the looks of the tread design) then my tires(bf goodrich g force kdws) but wouldn't handle in dry as good.
