Does the AR put a smile on your face when you drive it??
I mean, compared to other cars you've had, do you get a "smile" when you drive your AR? When you're coming home from work or a day out riding (or skiing), does it make you grin when you step on the gas? Or, do you sometimes wish you had something else? Do you have a happy relationship with it on a "day to day" basis?
My TT is a great car, but I'm starting to want more room and practicality. The only problem is, I haven't found something that gives me the "grin" factor as my TT.
All reviews aside, does the AR have a "soul"? I'm guessing yes, but I think it would have to be a 6 spd. opinions?

well, it ain't your TT, but...
My daily ride is an '01 225 TTQC, and my wife has this '02 AR thing. B4 the TT, i drove a 2.8L A6 sedan, which was ok. the AR is MUCH faster than that, and nearly as fast as the TT. Does it have a soul? Beats me, but it's darn near as fun as the TT. 1 second slower 0 to 60, if you believe the published times, and after driving both, I do. quite a car!

Smile? Hell, it's a Jeckyll and Hyde vehicle.
Go to work, carry the groceries, go out to dinner with another couple, and you'll have a pleasant sedate smile.
Take it out on a blue highway or a gravel road and thrash it out, and you'll sport a demonic grin worthy of the Jester.

Coming from a slightly modded A4...
...the allroad has been great.
The extra room is sooo nice. Driving a wagon has been sweet as well - much easier to carry my hockey bag around. I may not even need racks for my bikes.
The height adjustable suspension - great for the snow we just got.
The 2.7T has some nuts - and I'm still in the break-in period.
I'm hoping the 402 mod along with some 18" wheels/tires will tighten up the handling. Maybe this summer I can get an exhaust for a little more feedback and power.
At first I was planning on buying a dorrito but now I'm not sure it's needed.

Big Grin :)
Headed south on HWY 101 from SF to Foster City in pouring rain last Sat night/Sun morning, and was amazed how sure-footed and stable the AR behaved. No hydroplaning (mich pilot sport A/S). Traveling at a mild 80 mph, before I noticed everyone else was at 60 mph. Also, it didn't help that my date was yelling at me to slow down. Couldn't help but smile.

salsa/ no chips needed
I really agree that the car does not need more engine. All the other mods are OK I guess. Rather than going nuts and making the car an S6 with a 6sp and adjustable suspension (which admittedly is pretty appealing) I am going to make it the best damn stocker it can be. i'm going to wittle the rattle out of the rear hatch if it kills me, and perhaps hardwire the V1. Other than that, 18inchers with S03's make sense for the summer. Thats about it. I think the car was conceived and executed brilliantly from the outset and it is best the way it comes. IMHO.
