does a dealer have to track and align your wheels?
I'm about to have my tyres swapped over for my new nokians and i need the wheels aligned and tracked (previous wear tells me they badly need it), but a friend of mine with an A4 says that only a dealer can do it 'cos it involves removing some parts? Is this right? 'cos i just planned on taking it to my usual tyre place and have them track and align them. I'm gonna give my usual tyre place a call in the morning but I was wondering what you guys experience was?

My experience...
I had gone though 2 sets of tires within 20K miles. The front inside tires were badly worn.
Ordered replacement tires from Tirerack.com and had them shipped directly to the dealer.
Paid $50 to mount/balance the new tires... AR alignment was performed under warranty.
Unless you have bad tire wear, I doubt it is something that is covered.
Hope this helps.

Re: does a dealer have to track and align your wheels?
I had my wheels aligned by the dealer once free of charge while still under warranty. During the 10K service, I complained that the car pulled to the right. They aligned it and told me that they would typically do this once free during the warranty. I'm not sure if that was my dealership just being nice or that is part of the warranty. Either way, They did it.
