does your car sound like a geiger counter on cold mornings?
Its an AIR PUMP that is in the engine. Just got a call form my service rep (Robert DeLeon at Momentum in Houston) and he explained everything to me. Seems that most times they think its the cam tensioner but in fact it is the air pump for the engine. The noise will go away after about 1 minute of warmup so its tought to diagnose.
Hope this helps my fellows on the board if they have the same issue. |
Yes, but mine's different.
I hear a relay cycling for the first 30-60s. It's located in the IP, left of the steering wheel, sort of behind the headlight switch.
Anybody know what relay is back there? I can't detect any other symptoms apart from the sound of it clicking. |
Could be the power steering pump. Check your fluid level.

I've heard some cars do this when cold. At what temp? I've been listening for the noise all week
here as its been below zero for quite some time. Is this only on cars parked outside? I can't hear it.
|
well its only been in the 30's here and its really noticable
if you don't hear it then you're probably fine.

Heard it yesterday
We just got a cold spell, in the single digits this week.
I heard the noise briefly (5 seconds?) yesterday morning. I don't like noises. I also sometimes get a faint squeaking sound from the heater blower when it's cold. I have an '04. |
my noise actually lasts for about a minute.
