Default ECU memory question

Seriously considering the APR chip for my 04 AR 2.7t while I can get 4 maps for the usual price of 1. But I would rather wait until after September when the warranty is up IF the ECU memory on my AR cannot hold more than one ECU map anyway.

Does anyone know what model years have enough ECU memory to hold more than one map at a time? The guy at the shop where I would have the upgrade done could not tell me.

While your question is valid, the matter of fact is you'll be driving 100% of time on 93 (or 91 depending on gas availability) octane gas anyway. All people who buy multi program chips end up not using weak ones anyway and just run on the highest they can get at the pump.

Default true, but

True, I plan to drive on the 93 octane map all the time, but I still want the capability to switch back to the stock map if the upgrade map creates unforeseen issues. So I really just need enough memory for two maps - 93 octane and stock.

Also, be careful since tuners traditionally have problems tuning for the engine your car has (BEL) as there aren't that many of these out there.

Which chip you're thinking of?

My ecu reads 4z7 907 551 with no letter after it.Which type of ecu is this on my 2001 allroad 6spd. Do I need a flash program or can it have a chip upgrade.

This is a 1MB ECU that can hold up to 4 maps. You can just flash it.

Thanks.

I am considering the APR Stage I upgrade, not a new chip as I indicated before.

The dealer here also recommended APR R1 diverter valves to obtain the performance from the upgrade, but one other poster on here had a bad experience with the RI valve. The brass disk holding the diaphragm got sucked into his turbo, destroying it.

Can anyone recommend another performance diverter valve?

Thanx
