Default A few questions from the NOOB

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/102175/allroad_drivers_side_rear.jpg"></center><p>I recently picked up an '04 allroad 4.2.

I had a few questions I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with.

1) Is it possible/recommended to shift into sport mode from D at any speed?
2) I'm interested in the APR software to unlock the additional 40hp as well as H-Sports. Will either of these mods void the warranty or will a dealer service department likely not even notice?
3) I have the Audi Symphony stereo system which I believe is Satellite ready. Any ideas on cost to install Sirius/XM through the dealer?
4) Any thoughts on hardwiring and iPod?
5) Anyone have any thoughts on aftermarket extended warranties? A friend recommended www.certifiedcarcare.com.

Thanks.

Default Re: A few questions from the NOOB

1. no problem anytime, in fact the S6 permits it without requiring the thumb detent be pushed in as the gearshift slides back and forth freely.
2. don't be so sure about the 40hp, physical differences exist between the S6 and standard 4.2 engines such as some intake issues. Do the H Sports, based on universal acclaim. All modifications run the risk of warranty obliteration as far as the mod affects the car - so neither can void the sunroof coverage, but the chip could cost you engine coverage unless your dealer is in and tunes cars and you trust them, etc. The bars are low risk, particularly if you get the black ones - who'll notice at the dealership?
3. Search tool is your friend. Oft discussed on C5 forums, including easy DIY (need to activate control on radio, though).
4. Lots, again search. NOthing personally, though.
5. Let's talk, depending upon where you live I have some first hand and second hand advice gleaned from serious involvement in the issue - and might be able to save you money. In most cases, too, there's no reason to buy early and you could wait until the car is closer to miles or time on the factory coverage. I forgot how many miles you have now.

Default Answers from one of the "guys"....

1. iirc it always assumes it is 3rd gear if you are not stopped.
2. Depends...read up and see what folks who own in your area have to say as these things vary significantly even from dealer to dealer even in the same area.
3. Someone asked this not too long ago...you can use the search function and find all that has been written about it...another way is to post on your regional forum (pull down on the forum listing above for your region) or ask on the stereo forum, or search there as well.
4. Everyone has done it with every type of iPod and hardware/software...search and read, read, read
5. I have been very happy with AUL out of Napa, CA but it depends on where you are located and mustbeaudi is the inresident expert in this area and can help you by email, search for his name and you will find his email or he will most likely chime in here.

Good luck and you will find that the more time you spend here reading old posts the smarter you get about this amazing vehicle.

I appreciate all the advice. The 300 ponies alone is significant in the 4.2. But I do love being a little faster then the guy next to me in the "same" car. I've been into the 4 rings for a long time and in New England, unless you have the money for a new M3 or Cayman AND the Cayenne, the quattros are a geographical necessity in my opinion.

And nothing scares me with regards to the being on the same wavelength... we used to have an old FJ62 Land Cruiser and those forums are where the truly insane diehards lurk.

J, I'll hit you up off line and post my original in the regional section.

Thanks.

Allroad has the B6/7 S4 engine, not the C5? S6 engine.
