Fix-a-Flat? Good or Bad?
I recently bought a can of Fix-A-Flat - to keep in my car in for emergencies (like getting a flat on I-70 in the snow amid heavy ski traffic).
Then I noticed that the paperwork for my new snow tires from Discount Tire includes the following "Tip": "Please do not use any "Fix-a-Flat" type products.
Further Googling turned up postings that use of Fix-a-Flat could render tires un-repairable by your local tire repair place. Or that Fix-a-Flat can actually cause more severe damage to tires by "eating" the rubber and causing bubbling, etc.
Anybody know anyting about this? Has anybody on this forum used Fix-a-Flat? Any problems relating to its use?
Thx.

Depends. If you use it, the tire cannot be plugged / patched and must be replaced, and many tire
shops will refuse to replace a tire on which Fix-a-Flat has been used (because it's difficult to remove the tire). OTOH, you could simply not tell the shop if you do use it and give them an unpleasant surprise. :-P

my dad used it on my mom's mustang, and it destroyed the WHEELS!
it ate away to chrome on his custom wheels and then the wheels would no longer hold a tight seal. he had to buy new wheels. the guys at the tire shop said they have seen this a bunch.
