Frt Left CV boot shred in 35K - just a cheap boot?
Doing new CA's all around on my 2003 6spd. CV boots were replaced by my FORMER mechanics 35k ago. Car now has 125k. Found the left (driver) cv boot torn completely. When I took it in the first time at 90k, the factory boots only had half way round tears.
Were the boots just cheap? Bad install or something else wrong. CV joints seem fine - nothing hitting the boot. The CA noise was on the other side.

A lot of things can contribute to a CV boot tearing. It could be a crappy boot or road debris hit it and caused the cut or the mechanic damaged it when installing it. I've had aftermarket boots last 100k miles but I've also had some that lasted 15k before I noticed they were slit.
