Flashing engine light/rough idle
Well, I guess that I should have known that within a month of buying my 2005 AR 2.7T that something goes wrong. My wife was 1/2 mile from home at a stoplight and the engine all of a sudden starts to idle very rough and the check engine light came on and was flashing. I test drove it last night and the light is still flashing and the engine is running very rough. I called the local dealership and they said that it is likely an ignition coil problem and that this is a common problem with ARs. Mine has 51K. Anyone had a coil go bad and have the same symptoms? Does this sound like an accurate diagnosis? Fortunately I purchased a rather comprehensive extended warranty through CNA. Hopefully it will cover these repairs. Also, is it safe to drive the 9 miles to the dealership for the repair? I have to drive some of it on the highway. Thanks.

I'm no DIY guy, but it sounds like a bad coil pack. If you have any sort of diy skill, its supposed to be a 5 minute fix. Give a search for coil packs and you might find enough info on how to diy.
As for driving to the dealer...without codes to identify the cause that 9 mile drive could be a risky venture.

A bad coil pack is perhaps 100.00-150.00 at a dealer, installed.
You should not drive the car when the CEL is flashing. you can damage other parts.
If you have access to a scanner (vag or OBD) you can DIY this in 5 minutes for 60.00 for the pack from the dealer and less from aftermarket.
