Gear Oil - Distributor Gear
I have replaced a leaky transmission output flange seal on my 2001 Allroad 2.7T (automatic tranny). My question is what kind of gear oil I should use to fill distributor gear? Anyone have the Audi part number? What is the difference between this gear oil and ATF?
FYI, I plan to change the transmission filter and fluid (Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF) too.
Thanks.

It is a mineral based oil COMPLETELY different from regular Trans fluid.
USE only this type fluid. ZF and Pentosin make it. There are very few places that carry it outside of the dealer. And it's quite spendy.

Everything I have ever read suggests using the special Audi ATF in the ZF transmissions.
Anything other has undesired results...
It's expensive, but is what works in these transmissions.
I am not sure if it's because of properties of the aftermarket ATF, of if it's due to mixing the aftermarket with the OEM. Keep in mind there will be a significant amount of ATF further inside the tranny you will not be able to get out, so you will essencially be mixing the oils together.
Good luck!
