Good [not great] dealer experience with 2nd Torque Converter replacement
I had my original torque converter replaced at 127,000 miles because of the dreaded 17125 code valve/seal failure.
At 147,000 miles, my AR threw the d@#! code again! The transmission had been starting to slip again, so the code was not a big surprise.
I took it back to the dealer that did the original work (Lakes Region VW-Audi in NH). I explained that even though more than 12,000 miles had passed and the part was out of warranty, there is NO reason a torque converter should fail after 20,000 miles (they shouldn't even fail after 127,000 in my opinion).
I was also able to show a receipt from a different dealer that I had asked to look for leaks at about 139,000 miles (barely out of the TC warranty) and that dealer had stated (on the invoice) that the torque converter seal was leaking.
In addition, there is a TRB on this issue from Audi.
Anyway, the total bill for the repair was about $2200. Audi USA picked up half, the dealer picked up 25%, and my bill was 25%, or $550.
While I would have preferred to pay zilch for these defective torque converters, I was please Audi and the dealer were willing to work with me to lower the cost to me.
