Help... Check engine light came on in the middle of northern ontario...
Is there anyway to figure out if it is serious or not ? I am no where near a dealer. There are no obvious signs, oil temp is ok, coolant temp is ok, no funny noises etc...it's running fine, just a little worried about being stranded a 1000km from anywhere...
Thanks

Nothing you can do without a VAG-COM. If nothing feels or sounds wrong, it's usually nothing serious, O2 sensor or the like. Exception is a crapped out MAP sensor (usually shows up as excessive "lean" DTCs and really high long term fuel trims). If it's the MAP, unplug the sensor until it's fixed.

there are many Ontario entries on the vag locator
I dont know the cities well enough to know if any of them are up north or all down near toronto. anyway, take a peak, maybe someone can read the code for you.
as a general rule if the CEL isn't flashing then you are probably OK to keep driving.<ul><li><a href="http://www.steve-hall.com/cgi-bin/VAG-Locator.pl">vag com locator</a></li></ul>
