Shouldn't I check which oil is in the car before doing it?
Also he says that the 2.7 by turbo consumes about a quarter every 1K miles, is this true?
I mention that I've read here that these engines consume less than that and he basically said that he respect your opinions but he deals with this cars everyday so our opinion as owners don't really count.
TIA,
Martin

You can top off with any oil...there are no issues with mixing types...
But after break in, oil consumption practically stopped in my allroad. I also changed to synthetic at 5k, if that makes a difference. Oh and, tell your dealer that oil level is not a matter of "opinion"... it's easy to verify for oneself. Maybe you should show him how to check oil. ;-)

Minimal experience but....
First AR for 3K no change in oil level.
Second AR 1K no change in oil level yet!
You dealer quote sounds high but you should get other opinions off this forum.
I would try to top it with what is in there if possible. Of course in an emergency most anything is better than nothing.

Agreed; top off with what's in there, or as close as you can to it.
My ar consumed one quart the first 5K, and very little after that (0w30 Mobil1). I suggest you run only a top-quality synthetic (in the USA it's Redline, Mobil1, Amsoil) for best results.
If you're using alot of oil, you probably are using the wrong oil, the oil & filter needs changing, or you have engine problems. Except maybe when new or after 200,000 miles, one quart every 1000 miles is rediculous, IMHO.

factory fill is castrol dino...
but can be topped off with any brand/weight just so grade is api service grade sl/cf.
since the engine only holds 6 q there will be movement on the stick depending on temp of engine. very hot will read highest levels(after draindown), very cold lowest.. so always check near the same temp.
turbos don't burn much oil per say, but engines with forced air induction will use somewhat more if driven to extract the turbo benefits..
cheers

castrols syn actually starts as dino...
but is so highly refined they have been allowed to call it syn. actually they lobbied and had the definition of syn changed. i'm not degrading the product, i like castrol and have always used their products until my most recent s6...
my understanding is that the lubricants called synthetics are now of two broad types: 1.manufactured hydrocarbons started in the lab created from scratch and
2.dino that is so highly refined and uniform in molecular structure that chemically it is just like the true synthetics...this is what castrol does. m-1 and amsoil start with the real syn stock...
the vag in house brand is castrol and they formulate to vag specs about 12 different flavors for each of the vag engine requirements. other brands have their products certified as meeting vag specs but after the fact.
not sure any of this really matters just so the correct api grade is used...
cheers
