High Speed pursuit with the MD State Police!!! Kinda long..
I was sideswiped on the freeway Sunday and when I attempted to get the plate number the pickup truck that hit me ran. 911 operator instructed me to follow if safe and of course I did. The driver pulled over and when I stopped with him, he put the truck in reverse and attempted to ram the allroad and then sped off. As he pulled into traffic he ran several cars off the road and I followed(chased). The 911 operator instructed me to follow at a safe distance. At this point we were doing over 120 and the truck had ran several other cars of the road and passed others on the median. I continued pursuit and the truck would fake onto a exit ramp and pop back onto the freeway, obviously trying to shake me. The entire time I am relaying the information to the 911 operator all the while she is telling me to maintain a safe speed, don't put myself in jeopardy, etc. After this continued for about 10 minutes, and no units were on scene she informed me State Patrol was taking over the pursuit and transferred me to the SP dispatch. At this point the truck had exited onto a two lane road and continued at a hgh rate of speed. The SP dispatch(sounded like an older guy...maybe retired Trooper) ask me if I was "comfortable" maintaining my pursuit and of course I said yes! THEN, he asks me what I'm driving, and when I reply "twin turbo Audi quattro, sir!" he says...."Don't lose 'em!" lmao....
Anyway, the truck begins making u-turns in the middle of the road and trying to ram me...he does this about 3 times before he flees again..I continue pursuit for another 5 minutes or so until SP arrives and takes over.....while still on with the dispatch, I can hear the radio chatter...SP have lost sight of the vehicle...the Trooper that meets me later to take a statement confirms that they did lose them....sheesh!
Sidebar to those that know the area, this happened on 97, Rt. 3, 178 and Herald Harbor road..

Wow! I'm actually heading down 97 here in an hour. I'm a bit surprised, but pleased, that they let you do that. You never got a good look at the plate?

While on vacation in Palm Springs we witnessed a drunk hit and run and chased the offender
while calling 911. The operator was telling us not to let that person get away because the victim was hurt. It wasn't very fast but it took about 30 minutes before the guy gave up and drove to his house. He got out and waited while he looked at us across the street until the cops showed up. I was suprised how insistant the operator was that we stay with this guy. It made for an interesting vacation. Hope everything goes well on the repairs for your ar.

Glad you're not hurt. I loved the "twin turbo Audi quattro, sir". I wonder what his response...
...would have been had you told him:
"station wagon, sir".
pregnant pause on phone.... "You're going HOW FAST sir!?!?"
