Default How does AR 03 get 23 MPG on the highway?

I just was at my dealer and saw a 03 allroad. What is different about the 03 that gives it another 2-3 MPG on the highway over my 01 six speed which was rated at 16 city and 21 highway?

Default I used to think that was a mistake. Now I wonder if they changed something like the oil specs?

Alternatively they could have changed the fuel map? The Exhaust system? I don't think gearing is different. Or, it's just a mistake that's been propagated through all Audi literature...

But for the record... this '03 doesn't get 23mpg on any kind of road - in real life. =)

I have 7000 miles on my 03 and I seem to get around 23. I do use it mostly for trips (200 to 500miles). Considering the weight I am impressed with the mileage.

Default 19 avg on my 02 tip

That's city and highway combined and my foot is always in the ruffles bag.

Default I can get almost 25 doing 75-80 with a chipped 02 6spd

So it doesn't seem out of line.Depending on what speed the measure at. Audi's get best mileage in the 70-80 MPH range.

Default 20 avg mpg on my '03 6-sp, combination of city/highway.

And that is with some occasional quick-shifting-pedal-to-the-floor see-you-at-the-next-light bling-bling runs. I'm sure all highway would be close to 23.

Default My '03 got 25 mpg on a 150 mile highway trip (pretty flat).

I generally get 22 mpg with a 70% highway, 30% city mix.

Default Are you folks posting the indicated mpg avg or the actual ?

By actual, I mean fill tank, reset trip meter, drive, fill tank, calculate mpg. I'm suspecting the former...

Both my Audis trip computers have been rather optimistic - to the tune of 10-20%. On a full tank to indicated 10 miles or less remaining (that part seems pretty accurate!) I'll see 250-280 miles. This usually ends up being 16-18 mpg. Mix of highway/city and generally not too aggressive. I haven't seen over 20 ever.

No complaint here - it is a heavy vehicle with a turbo after all.
