How many here drive without the extended warranty, after the factory one ended?
My car has been super reliable, and I'm looking at the end of the factory warranty. 3k for an extended, or 3k in the bank for the big repair? I know 3k doesn't go far for one of our own.
Still... it's been so good so far.

If you add up...
all the warranty type repairs that I had from 50-100, I think they may total about $1000.00.
If Audi didn't step up and extend my warranty, most of the work would not have been done.
Some of it was for rubber peeling on the HVAC and doors, along with a CV Joint and a control arm. All of which most would consider a normal wear item.
I blew one airbag after 100K. My DIY and an Ebay airbag new in the box.
As far as breaks or a major happening...nadda, zilch, zero. I have to think that you and I having a 6 speed, limits a lot of the problems others may have.

Off warranty since 8/05. Had front air bags suspension as only issue
2001 allroad Tip. Dealer quoted $2700 to get extended warranty, didn't take it. Now at 72K miles spent about $2000 on both front air bags suspension replacement (54K and 58K). Extended warranty would have been coming up this August and I still have about $700 to go to break even against buying extended warranty up front.

50k+ miles (purchased with 53k) and no warranty..and no regrets...
most of my $ have been spent on front suspension components, timing belt change (twice, but that's another story), and brakes, a flasher module replacement. I know the turbos and airbags will go someday, but I accept that as part of the joy of owning a car bristling with technology and about as rare as a Ferrari (6speed manual).

I decided I'd assume the risk of no warranty. 51.5K miles now and so far so good.
Warranty companies are insurance companies betting that your car won't cost more to fix than the premiums. I agree with them, but it is a touch scary knowing the risk. For warranty companies the risk is spread over many cars and policyholders so a couple of large claims aren't a big deal. For me a new transmission, turbos or suspension air bags would hurt but yet knowing the risk, I decided to go without a warranty. I did the research and it would have been around $2800 for 5 years/50K additional coverage.
