I always felt that the allroad offered a lot of content for the dollar, but not any more. The Touareg seems to have everything the allroad has plus much, much more for a little over 51K. The example they had at the chicago auto show was pretty much decked out with nav, 19" wheels, 4-zone climate, air suspension, 6-speed tip and V8 for about the same price as a loaded allroad. I didn't think I would have to say this for a long while, but I have found something worthy enough to replace the allroad.

I was thinking along the same lines...
and I was impressed by the Touareg that I saw at the Detroit show, but it just doesn't quite have the panache of the allroad. Given the content I'd say that it's a better value, but, to me, the allroad is still more desirable.

Of course, the Touareg has much much more! ->
More weight, and more height!
If you're looking for loaded content for a given price, the Honda Accord takes the cake for 2003.
I'll keep the allroad. =)

Only if you are a tip weenie :-P.
Flame suit on....
But seriously, does it **** anyone else off that Audi has decided to eliminate the manual tranny in the only large avant they make?

Toureg = 5500 lb SUV; allroad = 4200 lb crossover
That is essentially all you need to know. Forget the Cayenne -- it has the rear-bias AWD system that will leave you high and dry in the muck. Also first year build issues on theToureg given all the new stuff on it -- engine/tranny/suspension (and everything else) is a major concern. Oh yeah don't forget the stellar VW service/dealership. Thats a major leap of faith for 51k. the Toureg is not an allroad replacement, it is an entirely different car. When the allroad goes away it may not be replaced with a similarly positioned car -- by anyone. Pikes Peak looks decidedly bigger and up market/ less down and dirty. IMO.

Do yourself a favor and watch the Cayenne video from Porsche (m)
it is one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the world.
I agree with you on the VW, it is nice but we'll see how many people will drop 50K on a first-year, first-ever SUV made by VW.

Gee - the Porsche video makes the car look good. Surprise.
I have no doubt that Porsche's PR video casts the vehicle in a favorable light. The system that Porsche uses has bias similar to BMW's which limits the distribution of torque to the front wheels. Fine, sporty, consistent with the dynamic aspirations of the vehicle and the marque. Not, however, what I want in my AWD vehicle that I need to get me through 22 inches of snow. I admit it is pretty cool though.

Chris C - I'm with you. I can't even consider the T-egg due to slush box
I may be in the minority, but I can't stand my engine being connected to my wheels by fluid.
I am at a loss as to what vehicle I would even consider. I am just floored by the fact that even the high performance models (S6 and god forbid the RS6) are only TIP.
Audi seems to have eliminated any "upgrade path" for me. At least some of the other makers are going to sequential manuals in their performance models.
