Default Looking at '02 AR... need help, please.

Hey there,

The lease on our '03 AR is coming up in a few months and I've been looking at the ARs in our area as a possible replacement. I found one today at a local independent dealer. Here are the details:

5/02 build date
1 owner
56k
Silver
Premium Package
Convenience Package
Onstar
Nav
BOSE
Twin-spoke wheels

They are asking $19,999.

The twin-spoke wheels were pretty scratched up, but nothing I can't have fixed. The car was very clean, not necessarily up to my standards, but nice. There was only one very small dent that can be fixed by the dent wizard.

Carfax comes across clean with one minor accident in May '05, otherwise just the vehicle being serviced and sold at auction. The carfax indicates that the car was a leased vehicle, which is supported by documents I found in the car showing that it was leased through Vw Credit.

Is there anyone out there that can run a dealer check? Trying to determine if the car was properly serviced.

An interesting note... the AR did not have HP2 calipers. It had the later '03 style calipers.

Asked the dealer about an extended warranty. The only warranty they have avaliable is through Buyer's Choice. Anyone heard of them? I did a search here on Audiworld with mixed results.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? TIA.

Default Sounds Like Audi would not certify it

If leased thru VW credit, I would think that it would be sold thru the Audi network as a pre-owned. The minor accident may have been what flunked it. Personally I'd look for another one.

A value yes, but not a $7k premium. Also, we like the '02 because of the tip controls on the steering wheel and the heated steering wheel. The NAV and rear parking sensors are nice too, both which our '03 does not have.

Default If the blemishes don't bother you, then you'd be likely making a great buy.

Just check out the vehicle service history with Audi. Prior problems should be few.

Default Lease and calipers....

Why not try to negotiate a lower buyout on your allroad at the end of the lease?

My car is a 4/02 build and also has the later calipers. I'm told April was the switch over date.

Hey Andy, sounds like a really good deal as long as that accident was minor. I would want to figure out exactly what happened. I just started checking things out on this forum because I am a bit curious about possibly picking up a used 6-sp AR. It would really fit my lifestyle and I miss the 2.7T. Not to mention the adjustable suspension that would be a big help in ski country (I just came back from Mammoth where we got 7-8 feet in 36 hours!) We took my friend's 06 loaded ML500 instead of my A8. Glad to see you like the AR enough to get another one.
